Young Writers Poetry Competition P2/3

14th May 2026

During Term 2, Primary 2 and Primary 3 were busy learning all about sense poetry as part of their literacy work. The children explored how poets use the five senses — sight, sound, smell, taste and touch — to help bring their writing to life and create vivid pictures in the reader’s imagination. Through fun activities, discussions and shared reading, the pupils developed their own ideas before creating their very own poems inspired by the world around them.

The children showed fantastic creativity and enthusiasm throughout the topic, using exciting vocabulary and thoughtful descriptions in their writing. They worked extremely hard to edit and improve their poems, taking great pride in producing pieces that were imaginative, expressive and full of personality.

As part of this learning experience, the classes entered a Young Writers competition and were given the wonderful opportunity to have their poems considered for publication in a real book. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that every poem submitted by the classes has been selected for publication! This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the effort, creativity and talent shown by all of the children.

We are incredibly proud of our talented young writers and cannot wait to see their work published. Well done to all of the boys and girls for their amazing poems and for representing our school so brilliantly!
