Celebrating the Feast of St. Brigid – 1st February at St. Teresa’s
This week, our whole school community came together to celebrate the Feast of St. Brigid, one of Ireland’s most beloved saints. Across all year groups, pupils enjoyed a range of activities that helped them learn about St. Brigid’s life, her generosity and her lasting legacy of faith and kindness.
Our Primary 7 pupils began the celebrations with a special workshop led by Mrs Reavey, who demonstrated how to make traditional St. Brigid’s Crosses. After watching closely, the children had the opportunity to make their own crosses with great care and pride. Throughout the week, Mrs Reavey visited every class—from Reception right through to Primary 6—to teach the children how to create the variety of crosses associated with St. Brigid’s Feast Day. We are extremely grateful to her for her time, expertise and enthusiasm.
All the crosses made by the children were brought to our weekly Mass, where Fr. Murphy offered a special blessing. Mrs Reavey also made an additional St. Brigid’s Cross for every family in our school, ensuring each home could share in this beautiful tradition. We extend a special thank you to Mrs Reavey for this very thoughtful and kind gesture.
Alongside the cross making, pupils took part in a variety of other activities to help them deepen their understanding of St. Brigid and her message. Classes explored the story of St. Brigid, engaged in artwork inspired by her life and had a meaningful opportunity to bless themselves and say a quiet prayer using the beautiful St. Brigid’s Blanket kindly brought into school by Joanne Callan from Relax Kids.
A sincere thank you to all our parents and families who kindly sent in rushes throughout the week, your support made these activities possible and is greatly appreciated.
St. Brigid, Pray for Us.
