Preparing for Internet Safety Day 2026
This morning, our KS1 and KS2 pupils at St. Teresa’s Primary School, Tullyherron were delighted to welcome Constables Mark and Ciara from our local PSNI team, who visited the school as part of our preparations for Internet Safety Day 2026.
During their engaging and informative sessions, Mark and Ciara spoke to pupils about the importance of staying safe online and using digital devices sensibly, responsibly and respectfully. They shared valuable advice and practical tips to help children understand the many potential dangers that can exist online, while also empowering them to make safe and positive choices when using the internet.
A key focus of the visit was online gaming. The constables highlighted the importance of parental supervision, setting clear boundaries and limiting screen time, as well as discussing the impact that excessive screen use can have on children’s health, sleep patterns and attention in school. Pupils were encouraged to balance their time online with opportunities to play outdoors, enjoy fresh air and take part in a variety of sports and physical activities.
This visit linked closely with this year’s Internet Safety Day theme:
“Smart Tech, Safe Choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI”, which encourages children and young people to think carefully about how they use technology and to make informed, safe decisions online. [saferinternet.org.uk]
We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Constables Mark and Ciara for visiting our school this morning and for delivering such important and age appropriate internet safety messages to our pupils. Their support plays a vital role in helping our children stay safe and confident in today’s digital world.
