Paired Reading Fridays at St. Teresa’s

26th Nov 2025

Throughout November, every Friday morning at St. Teresa’s Primary School has been dedicated to Paired Reading, a wonderful initiative designed to promote and enhance our pupils’ love of reading.

From Reception to Primary 7, all pupils have taken part in these engaging sessions, which have been both enjoyable and highly beneficial.

Our older pupils have embraced the role of reading mentors: Primary 7 pupils pair with Reception, Primary 1, and Primary 3 pupils. Primary 6 pupils pair with Primary 4 pupils and Primary 5 pupils pair with Primary 2 pupils. During these sessions, older pupils model excellent reading strategies and skills, while younger pupils practice and develop their own reading fluency and comprehension.

This collaborative approach not only strengthens literacy skills but also fosters confidence, friendships and a shared love of books across year groups.

The enthusiasm and engagement from all pupils have been outstanding and the positive impact on reading development is clear.

Paired Reading Fridays have truly become a highlight of the week at St. Teresa’s!

We encourage parents/carers to continue supporting this love of reading at home by sharing stories, listening to your child read and celebrating their progress together.
