Term 1 Mrs Duffy's Class
We have had a wonderful first term in Rec/P1 and it has been lovely to see how well the children have settled into school life.
In Literacy, the children explored new letter sounds while revising those already learned. They began learning high-frequency words to support early reading and started their exciting journey into segmenting and blending, helping them develop important early reading and writing skills.
In Numeracy, the children learned new numbers and took part in a range of non-number activities focusing on shapes, positional language, and patterns. These concepts were explored through hands-on, interactive experiences that the children thoroughly enjoyed.
Play-based learning has continued to play an important role. Through play, the children have been developing key social skills such as sharing, taking turns, and working cooperatively with others.
In our World Around Us topics, the children have enjoyed exploring 'All about me' and 'Light and Dark'. They learned more about themselves, their families, and the world around them, as well as observing and investigating different sources of light and understanding the contrast between light and dark.
Throughout ICT in Term 1, the children explored the Just2easy programme recording data on their favourite fruits, eye colours, created beautiful self portraits and participated in Just2easy live lessons.
The children enjoyed learning about our special saint, St Teresa, remembered loved ones in November, explored the story of Nativity and developed an understanding of the significance of Advent.
We have also thoroughly enjoyed our weekly music lessons, where the children explored rhythm, singing, and instruments. They were able to showcase their love of music in our christmas performance "Lights , Camel, Action" which was a fantastic celebration of their hard work!
We look forward to an exciting Term 2!
